摘要:
The basic mechanisms of the freezing of cell suspensions are discussed in terms of solute enrichment and the resulting osmotical consequences. The shrinkage kinetics of the cell volume and the influence of the cooling rate play a crucial role regarding cell damage due to solution effects or intracellular ice formation. The use of cryoadditives permits a substantial reduction of the optimal cooling rate, due to different mechanisms for non-penetrating low molecular weight substances and polymers such as hydroxyethyl starch.
