摘要
In recent years biotechnology has been generating special interest because of the wide range of applications that it has, not being a basic science but a set of methods, knowledge and tools with a multidisciplinary approach which allows that the results of its research serves diverse problems related to industrial processes, agriculture, nanotechnology, food, environmental solutions or medicine, among others. It has grown constantly and it forecasts an increased demand for its products, likewise it has influenced in the creation of new business, careers and even clusters. Mexico is part of this set of changes and biotechnological developments; for this reason it is important to analyze where development efforts of this new technological field are directed, for which it is essential to know what has been done until now. This paper aims to describe the trajectory of the biotechnology in Mexico considering the developments and research projects, the impact in the creation of Intellectual Property (IP) and the key areas the biotechnology is focused. Nevertheless, the emergence of new technology-based industries involves an important management where at the national level the responsible for this management is the government, so the paper seeks to understand the regulations and institutions responsible in each biotechnology area in Mexico.
