EFFICACY OF SALINOMYCIN AND MADURAMICIN AGAINST EIMERIA MITIS IN CHICKENS

The efficacy of maduramicin (5 ppm) and salinomycin (60 ppm) against an E. mitis isolate was tested in a cage trial together with unmedicated and noninfected controls. The trial was replicated four times in groups of ten 16-day-old male Tetra broiler chicks inoculated with 1 x 10(5) E. mitis oocysts. Compared with the unmedicated infected controls, both drugs increased weight gain, and reduced oocyst production and mucosal scraping scores significantly. They showed a similar performance (weight, weight gain, feed conversion ratio). However, the parasitological data showed a better efficacy of maduramicin.
