摘要
This article deals with the characteristics of water supply as one of the elements of sustainable tourism development on the Island of Krk. The Island of Krk, being an important tourist and second home area, as well as Croatia's most populated island, shows significant needs for water resources. During the summer, there is huge pressure on the water supply system and the environment in general. Does the island have enough water resources to meet such a demand? Owing to the abundant island wells and thanks to the connection of the northern part of the island to mainland Rijeka's water supply system in mid-2008, current water demands are being satisfied. Therefore, we can say that, although the drainage problem still has not been solved, sustainable tourism development of the island is not being impeded for the time being by the lack of water resources. However, water supply is not the only parameter of sustainable tourism development in a particular area. It is necessary also to take into account other indicators that influence the quality of life of the local population, as well as those of periodical space consumers.
