URBAN CONGESTION AND POLLUTION - IS ROAD PRICING THE ANSWER

A seminar on 'Urban congestion and pollution-is road pricing the answer?' was held by Nottingham University's Institute of Transport Studies with Nottinghamshire County Council on 21 May 1992. The seminar compared various approaches from the UK and abroad. The need to curtail and manage urban road traffic growth is, increasingly, beyond dispute: growing environmental threats and the Government's commitment to controlling carbon dioxide emissions, the logistical problems of coping with additional traffic, the economic disadvantages of congestion, and the sheer momentum of road traffic growth, all point to this conclusion.
