摘要
The utilization of biomembranes and immobilized microorganisms for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) estimation is discussed. The principles of the measurement are explained as well as the potential differences between instruments. For a better comprehension of the field of application of these methods, artificial substrates (pure, and in mixtures) representing the major components of domestic wastewater are analyzed. Except for simple sugars, the results are quite different from those obtained by the classical BOD dilution method.
