摘要
Usage of expressions and idioms from sports sphere is one of the noticeable features of modern mass communication media. In the article are analyzed different ways of forming new phraseologisms (resp. idioms) in sport sphere, such as quotation in mass media and cases of transforming existing phraseologisms. Such units derived from the quotations or transformed idioms may have varying degrees of expressivity and express different realities of sport. Being the main source in origin of such new transformed units, Mass media popularize them and "launch" them into language. Language game of such type is a favorite way of joking not only in sport articles and reportage. Sportsmen, coaches - strictly speaking, "men of sport", together with sport journalists oft en create new transformed idioms intentionally to emphasize main idea of their point of view or just to express their emotions. This kind of language game makes an article (especially headlines) or reportage vivid, more expressive and splashy. Refs 22.
