摘要
This research examines the influence of Malay (BM) and English (BI) in the code-switching strategies by Malay students of French as a foreign language. A total of 50 respondents were involved in the study. The respondents were asked to complete a writing activity. The result was analysed using qualitative and quantitative approaches based on Zentella's (1997) definition and classification of code-switching. The result showed that Malay language was utilised more by the respondents in their code switching to French. Respondents also used code switching strategies as crutching, conjoining and replacing words and phrases when they could not translate into French. This research also found that code switching in the form of crutching was most utilized. The code switching involved nouns, adjectives, prepositions and personal pronouns.
