SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLYESTERS CONTAINING SULFIDE, SULFONE OR CARBONYL GROUPS IN THEIR BACKBONES

摘要
Novel polyesters containing sulphide, sulphone and carbonyl groups are reported. Three diacids were prepared through several steps from 1,4-bis(p-phenylthio)benzene, bis(p-phenylthio)-diphenyl sulphone and bis(p-phenylthio)-benzophenone. Three model diesters (MDE-1,2,3) were prepared. The model compounds and the polyesters were obtained in high yields by direct polycondensation of acids with some aromatic diols in thionyl chloride and pyridine system at 80-85-degrees. All the polyesters were characterized by spectral, analytical and thermal methods; the morphology (XRD), solution viscosity, density and solubility were also studied.
