The method of the characterization of ceramics used as transducers clamped in the Langevin sandwich construction is proposed. Dielectric and mechanical losses, electroacoustic efficiency and dynamic stress in transducers as a function of electric field for the most important ultrasonic power applications is found. The method is used to evaluate the suitability of two piezoelectric compositions ("hard" and "half-soft") for those applications. © 1990, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
