摘要
Biodegradability in soil of poly-beta-hydroxyalkanoate (PHA) films was monitored using both light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). PHA films were buried in a forest soil for up to three months. Colonization of the films by fungal hyphae and other microorganisMS, probably soil actinomycetes could be detected. Signs of PHA film degradation such as tracks following hyphae and surface cleavage were clearly seen by SEM. Isolations on corn meal agar from PHA buried fragments mostly yielded Penicillium spp. colonies. The mode of degradation and possible consequences on the use and disposal of PHA polymers is discussed.
