ANALYSIS OF THE DISCONTINUOUS PULSE PROFILE VARIATIONS OF THE VELA X-1 X-RAY PULSAR

摘要：
Results from the Pulsar X-2 instrument on the Gamma module are presented. In an analysis of the instantaneous pulse profiles for the Vela X-1 pulsar obtained for twelve observations over a approximately 20 min period, a correlation has been detected between the flux value for the modulated component and the phase value of the global minimum for a pulse profile. Such behavior may be interpreted as transitions from accretion mostly onto one magnetic pole of the neutron star to accretion mostly onto the other pole with a change in the accretion rate.
