Preparation and properties of ultrafine (submicron) structure titanium alloys

A method of obtaining ultrafine structure (UFS) states (with a crystal size less than 0.5 mu m) in two-phase titanium alloys from bulk starting material (without the stage of powder preparation) is discussed. The method is based on the results of an investigation of deformation processes (on rolling) with low total degree of deformation (\epsilon\less than or equal to 1) and ''undeveloped'' recrystallization. Tensile testing of these UFS states was done in the temperature range from -196 to 550 degrees C. It was found that the UFS states have a specific deformation behaviour and improved mechanical properties.
