摘要：
Low-grade pyrites are dumped near mine sites as they have no commercial utilisation. The dumps create environmental problems due to the emission of SO2 as a result of oxidation. Low-grade pyrites were leached in the presence of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans both in a shake flask and in a column containing 1.5 tons of the low-grade ore. The leach liquor was treated with ammonia to produce ammonium sulphate. Detailed studies pertaining to the leaching and treatment of leach liquor are described. It is proposed to recover ammonium sulphate from the solution by solar evaporation as solar energy is abundantly available in India.
