摘要
The cultivation of coconuts is conducted in several countries and in Brazil is considered a fruit of great economic and social importance because of the wide variability of products can be obtained through its operation, and to play an ecological role in fragile environments. In recent years in Brazil, coconut cultivation has promoted changes in economic and productive arrangement promoting a new geo-productive arrangement. The objective is to contextualize the development of coconut cultivation in the state of Sergipe in the face of production scenarios and the Northeastern region of Brazil. The methodology was based on descriptive statistics as a method to synthesize a series of values, from 1990 to 2011, obtained by the official Brazilian. In Brazil the largest plantations and coconut production is concentrated in the Northeast. The coconut cultivation in Sergipe is an important source of income for many farmers, occupying approximately 42 million ha, of which 80% are located in an area of coastal lowland and coastal plains. Today is the state with the second largest coconut producing country and third in area planted, mainly for production of coconut. Observed that the contribution of state for the production and northeastern Brazil has increased substantially due to an increase in productivity. This fact demonstrates the technological developments over the past 20 years with the coconut crop. Yet the political and geo-economic scenario of the state of Sergipe show concern ahead of the character transformations that were seen as expansion of coconut cultivation to other regions and possibly the most import coconut benefited from other countries, culminating in increased competitiveness sector.
