Life Skills and Academic Achievemnent of Secondary School Students in Relation to Parental Involvement and Working Status of their Mothers

Education is fundamental for the development of society. The more educated the people of a society are, the more enlightenedand well-organized the society might be. The more the parents engage in the process of imparting life skills and education to their children, the more the children might shine in their academic career and to become the fruitful and responsible members of the society. The present research aims to explore the role of parental involvement and working status of the mothers in the attainment of life skills and improving the academic achievement of their children. The research was conductedin Jalandhar city (Punjab). Ten schools were selected through simple random sampling in the sample frame of present study. A total of 400 students of 9th class of secondary school were taken as respondents. Survey questionnaire to measure life skills, academic achievement, parental involvementworking status of the mothers were used as a tool for data collection. Mean, standard deviation and 2x2 ANNOVA were employed to analyze and interpret the difference of data. After the analysis of data it was found that the life skills of students differ with regard to the parental involvement. The academic achievement of the students differs with regard to the working status of the mothers.
