摘要：
An outline of a framework and of basic components of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is given as an introduction to the topics of the conference ITAMS'91. The role of information technology as a basic and defining tool is emphasized. Many of the details referred to implicitly in this introduction will be addressed explicitly in the presentations of the conference.
