SYNTHESIS AND REACTIONS OF [BIS(TRIMETHYLSILYL)AMIDO]ALUMINUM COMPOUNDS

The reaction of LiN(SiMe3)2with AlCl3NEt3and solid aluminum chloride produced AlCl2N(SiMe3)2NEt3, AlCl[N(SiMe3)2]2, and Al[N(SiMe3)2]3. AlCl2N(SiMe3)2-NEt3failed to react with hexamethyldisilazane; no trimethylchlorosilane was eliminated on pyrolysis. Pyrolysis of AlCl[N(SiMe3)2]2gave methane as the major volatile product, not the expected trimethylchlorosilane. Treatment of [AICI2NHSiMe3]2with triethylamine did not lead to a simple complex. [(Me3Si)2NAlNSiMe3]2was obtained from the reaction of [AICl2NHSiMe3]2and LiN(SiMe3)2. Exposure of [(Me3Si)2NAINSiMe3]2to ammonia led to liberation of 1.5 mol of HN(SiMe3)2; thermolysis of the ammonolysis product was investigated. Reaction of boron trichloride with Al[N(SiMe3)2]3resulted in trimethylboron formation and some boron incorporation, accompanied by tetramethylsilane elimination and methyl group replacement by chlorine. © 1990, American Chemical Society.
