摘要：
Several extensions have been proposed to the simple one-electron, single-ligand, spin-independent models commonly used in the calculation of crystal field splitting and one- and two-photon transition intensities in the f(N) configurations of rare earth ions. These extensions are discussed, with particular emphasis on restrictions imposed by selection rules.
