Assesment of knowledge in sports nutrition with physical education professionals in a Sao Paulo Sport Club

摘要
Physical education professionals are in direct contact with athletes and very often are those that indicate foods and supplements to them. The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge about sports nutrition and the prevalence indication of food supplements by actuating physical education professionals in a club of Sao Paulo. This is a transverse research field involving graduating and graduated people in physical education. The questionnaire consisted of 12 to 16 items that evaluates the knowledge about nutrition and sports supplementation. The results showed that the majority of the participants have some knowledge about sports nutrition and all of them denied making supplements indications. The main errors were related to protein recommendations and hydration. So it seems necessary the implementation of nutritional education programs, with nutritionist support, working with other professionals in clubs or places where the practice of physical exercises occur very often for a properly guidance on food and nutrition.
