摘要
Objective: The childhood obesity epidemic has perpetuated an increase in the implementation of school-based nutrition and physical activity interventions. However, there is little continuity regarding which interventions districts choose to implement, and how program outcomes effectiveness is measured. A literature review of markers of intervention effectiveness is needed. Methods: Fourteen studies that focused on school-based interventions during the period of 2009-2013 were reviewed. Results: Programs vary widely in terms of curricula, duration, and outcome measures. Nutrition knowledge was the most common outcome measure. Few studies resulted in significant changes to anthropometric measures or behavior changes. Conclusions: Strategies such as curriculum integration, incorporation of technology, and non-traditional teaching methods should be considered.
