KINETICS OF THE REDUCTION OF SULFUR-DIOXIDE .3. FORMATION OF HYDROGEN-SULFIDE IN THE REACTION OF SULFUR-DIOXIDE WITH HYDROGEN

The existence of an induction period and an increase in the reduction rate with an increase of the reactor diameter has been observed in the reduction of sulfur dioxide with hydrogen in quartz reactors with a diameter of 21-46 mm at 1100 K. A relationship has been established between the yield of hydrogen sulfide in the reaction and the initial H2/SO2 ratio. It has been shown that the degree of conversion of SO2 to H2S increases with increasing excess of hydrogen, reaching 100% at H2/SO2 greater-than-or-equal-to 6.
