Using the Monte Carlo method, we calculated the limit to the intrinsic spatial resolution of scintillation gamma-cameras, which is determined by gamma-quanta interacting with the scintillator. The calculations were for a scintillator in the shape of an infinitely large flat uniform layer of finite thickness, onto which an infinitely narrow beam of gamma-quanta is normally incident. The intrinsic spatial resolution was calculated for NaI(Tl), CsI(Tl), and Bi4Ge3O12 scintillators with thicknesses varying from (1/4) to 3 in. and for incident gamma-radiation energies ranging in between 0.5-5 MeV.
