The writing of trauma: life and death in Carandiru de Varella

This analyzes Estaqdo Carandiru, by Drauzio Varella, and its insertion in the Brazilian contemporary context. Varella shapes his book in a neonaturalist style. Crossed by the narrator's discursive filter, life stories intersperse one another in a construction whose protagonist is the prison itself: Carandiru. The violence and cruelty are present in the mosaic of voices which echo by the prison passages.
