STIMULATION OF ESTROUS IN NONPREGNANT SOWS WITH PREGNANT MARE SERUM GONADOTROPIN (PMSG)

The paper summarizes the results of experimental and clinical long-term studies of oestrus synchronisation in non-pregnant sows with PMSG. 750-800 I.E. PMSG (Prolosan ''Dessau'' and Pregmagon ''Dessau'') were administered to healthy sows which were kept under good control of feeding, keeping, and management 24 hours after weaning of their piglets. No negative effects of this treatment were observed after even years of treatment, but in contrast positive effects on parameters of reproductive effects on parameters of reproductive fitness were found to occur. Target categories for stimulation of oestrus are outlined and recommendations for further indications are given.
