摘要
The structure of the complex formed between Al(III) (alum) and brazilein in aqueous solution was investigated using UV-visible spectroscopy. The molar ratio method and Job's method of continuous variation were applied to ascertain the stoichiometric composition of the complex in aqueous solution. A 1:2 complex was indicated by both methods. A structure for Al(brazilein)(2) was proposed and the calculated heat of formation of this complex, obtained by the semiempirical PM3 method, indicated that the proposed complex was a reasonable one energetically.
