摘要
An explanation of the formation of surface depressions in continuous casting is offered in terms of skin destabilization under the combined action of mechanical and thermal compressive stresses in the mold. The parts of the skin liable to become unstable are those that have moved away from the mold walls. No surface depressions arise when high and medium carbon steels are being cast with uniform heat removal and a relative compressive deformation rate in the meniscus adjacent zone of up to 0.05-0.10 s-1.
