SITUATION ROOM AND ELECTORAL PROCESSES IN VENEZUELA: THE IMPORTANCE OF TECHNICAL AND STATISTICAL SUPPORT

This study carries out a reflection about the reference guidelines for effective technical and statistic support in a situation room which aims to attend an electoral process. The paper provides the main concepts for the understanding of Statistics as a scientific discipline and the situation room as a tool to organize cooperative work in order to gather, process, analyze, and assess useful information to support decision-making. A diagnose of the activity related to an electoral situation room is presented based on the role of the actors involved: private companies, consulting firms, political organizations, and the electorate. As a conclusion, the importance of innovation and technology use ishighlighted, as well as of statistical packages for technical support, without banning strategic thinking as a fundamental action in decision-making.
