Tracheal plasmacytoma in a dog

A seven-year six-month-old male, neutered Border Collie was presented with a two-week history of progressive stridor and an episode of collapse. Cervical radiographs revealed an intraluminal mass obstructing 80 per cent of the tracheal lumen. Cytology of fine needle aspirate from the mass was suggestive of a plasma cell tumour. The mass was removed endoscopically using diode laser ablation. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry confirmed a plasmacytoma. On follow-up endoscopic examination six weeks postoperatively, there was suspected recurrence of the tracheal mass. The dog underwent an open revision surgery to excise the mass. No further complications were seen postoperatively.
