NEW DIAGNOSTIC-TOOLS FOR DENGUE DIAGNOSIS

The diagnosis of dengue relies classically on the isolation of the virus and its identification by type-specific monoclonal antibodies. Days to weeks are necessary to complete these assays, Several RT-PCR for DEN viruses detection were developed since 1990, and provided powerful tools for a rapid diagnosis and molecular epidemiology. However, their usefullness as a current diagnosis tool is limited by the cost, the complexity of the method and the need of skilled technologists, Recently, improvement in the rapidity and the handling of RT-PCR within hours has been proposed, and validation of these methods has to be conducted. In parallel, development of direct detection of viral antigens in serum specimens by sensitive enzymeimmunoassay has to be sought in order to make dengue diagnostics more widely available, Rapid and simple test will contribute to betterpatient management and better surveillance of disease.
