Influence of music on emotions: a brief review

This article focuses on the exploration of music as a psychological phenomenon of interest, especially the role of music in the development of emotional experiences in people. Through the exploration of diverse sources and empirical studies emerges a description of scientific evidence that integrates neuroscience, the study of higher psychological functions, and diverse musical stimuli in order to shed light on neurobiological mechanisms that could prove whether or not music plays an important role in the manifestation of positive and negative emotions. The role of music is further described in relation to important activities, such as the emotional recovery of individuals.
