With the routine use of image analysis, there is a definite need for standardization in the pulp and paper industry. Since image analysis uses basic concepts, creation of a standardization package should be easy This paper discusses what to expect from standardization, how it might occur, and the variables that interfere or affect standardization. There is a specific proposal for standardization with concomitant questions.
