His importance has been growing over time. Nowadays no-one has any doubt as to his signifiance as a Renaissance philologist, thanks to his varied intellectual endeavours. However, one must lay emphasis on his steadfast commitment to philological issues. No matter what genre he writes in or the importance of his material, whether directly or via translation, he stresses the valve and fusion of language. This is especially so with regards to lexis and proper nouns. Above any other facet or detail, philology is central and transverse element in all of his literary endeavours.
