摘要：
Humanity's association with microbes as tools has historically led to continuing improvements in living standards. The problems of waste management and control of toxic agents now requires further exploration of our microbial friends. These areas of biotechnology can benefit from the resources provided by the world-wide availability of cultures from culture collections and it is prudent to cultivate these activities and publicize their functions so that all may profit.
