Urticarial Vasculitis and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Urticarial vasculitis is characterized by concurrent systemic symptoms and cutaneous findings that must be distinguished from the typical skin manifestations of urticaria. It shares the features of leukocytoclastic vasculitis histopathologically. The majority of the cases appear as idiopathic in childhood but infections, malignancy, drug hypersensitivity reactions as well as autoimmune diseases may accompany in the minority. Up to now, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Sjogren's syndrome have been among the autoimmune diseases frequently addressed as associated with urticarial vasculitis but Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a rare association. In this report, a pediatric patient with urticarial vasculitis and concurrent Hashimato's thyroiditis is reported, and this rare association is discussed with the review of the related literature.
