DECOMPOSITION OF METHANOL ON METHANOL SYNTHESIS CATALYSTS CONTAINING COPPER

摘要
We have investigated the dynamics of the conversion of methanol on the catalyst CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 in a static system. On a freshly reduced catalyst the first products of the conversion of methanol are CO2 and H2, formed with the participation of firmly bound chemisorbed water (zH2O + CH3OH --> z + CO2 + 3H2) and also methyl formate. When the chemisorbed water is used up, the main reaction remains the formation of methyl formate (2CH3OH --> CH3OCHO + 2H2). It is shown that CO is formed in secondary reactions by the decomposition of methyl formate.
