摘要：

This paper discusses the relative merits of parametric versus non-parametric methods in constructing indices of income inequality utilizing grouped data. The information content is higher from the parametric specifications with a cost of possibly misspecifying the functional form. We conclude that the indices should be constructed using the parametric method and then the results checked using a non-parametric method. © 1990.
