摘要
Increasing food production in pace with the growth in population may aggravate environmental problems, and undermine the agricultural resource basis for future production. On the other hand, measures introduced to alleviate pollution and to reduce pressures on the environment from agriculture may lead to lower production and more expensive food. Change and improvement will have to take place over a very broad field, and this will require active cooperation between research institutions, farmers, and the political policy makers. New production technologies and improved plant varieties must be developed, and a better insight must be pined into the links between machinery, soil, plants and animals.
