摘要
The teaching of Science in the elementary school requires the consideration of specific goals designed by both parents and the school. This study introduces an approach towards the necessary Science teaching skills in the elementary school years; elaborations on such a topic are not commonplace yet. The study initially presents the main definitions of Science, the importance of Science teaching in the elementary school years and the current propositions in the field, such as the research-based teaching and the "Science-technology-society" approach, regarded as viable in the elementary years and adequate to the establishment of a healthy citizenship. However, innovations in this area shall require from teachers the review of practices and new skills, i.e. the debate on the misconceptions of Science / Science teaching and the adoption of research as a professional development tool. Thus it is made clear that the teaching skills in the elementary school years must connect the student's peculiarities with the goals of Science teaching. Therefore one concludes that, although there are limits between the training and the performance of Science teachers in the elementary school years, this paper is a foothold towards the necessary changes in the formation of such professionals.
