摘要
Ribwort Plantain (Plantaginis lanceolatae herba/folium) is used for the therapy of infections of the upper respiratory airways as well as topically in cases of inflammations of the skin and mucosa. Traditionally Ribwort Plantain is described as a polysaccharide drug with antibiotic effects. But results of pharmacological research indicate immunomodulatory, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and spasmolytic effects as well. Data from controlled clinical trials are not available. Due to the experience with Ribwort Plantain in the medical practice and due to the positive results from pharmacological research the use in moderate irritative cough as well as topically in cases of inflammations of the skin and mucosa can be recommended.
