CRITICAL-STATE MODEL - COMPARISON OF TRANSVERSE AND ELONGATED GEOMETRIES

Analytic solutions were recently published for the magnetic properties of a thin-film disc and a strip, transverse to an applied field, and with field-independent critical current density J(c). Some of the predicted properties are shown to be similar to those of bulk samples, suitably scaled, but extra caution is required in extracting J(c) values from magnetisation curves and AC susceptibilities.
