SENIOR FACULTY PERCEPTIONS OF RESEARCH PRODUCTIVITY

This is part of an ongoing study of research productivity among senior faculty throughout their careers. The paper reports on 145 responses to a survey which queried the senior faculty at Syracuse University on their perceptions of what productivity is, how important publication is to their advancement, and what are the aids and deterrents to research productivity. Results of the survey are not surprising. The major differences among groups were found among disciplines, particularly between the sciences and mathematics faculty and the other three discipline groups, humanities, social sciences, and professional schools.
