FACILE SYNTHESIS OF ALPHA-HYDROXYBUTENOLIDES AND ALPHA-KETO-BETA-ALLYL-GAMMA-BUTYROLACTONES

摘要：
The reaction of alpha-keto-beta-alkyl-beta-allyloxycarbonyl-gamma-butyrolactones with ammonium formate in the presence of palladium catalyst gave alpha-hydroxybutenolides in good yields. When the reaction was carried out without ammonium formate, decarboxylation-allylation took place to give allyl enol ethers of alpha-hydroxybutenolides, which were converted to alpha-keto-beta-allyl-gamma-butyrolactones by the thermal Claisen rearrangement.
