HIGHER EDUCATION, CLASSROOM EDUCATION, DISTANCE LEARNING AND THE USE OF ICT IN PUERTO RICO AND DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

This article summarizes the main chronological events occurring in higher education and distance learning, with the emphasis on the use of technology in the Dominican Republic (DR) and Puerto Rico (PR) from the colonial era to the present. The influences and backgrounds in general education aspects of the D. R. and P. R. have different bases, as one, in the case of Puerto Rico, has its roots in the American educational system and the other, this is Dominican Republic, comes from Europe, however in distance education, the issue is a little different, it is universal and almost all countries have a common purpose, which is to nullify the barriers of distance. Both countries have similarities in how they have developed and implemented the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) in Distance Education (D. E).
