摘要:
Life expectancy in France is currently about 72 years in males and 80 years in females. The proportion of individuals who live beyond the ge of 60 years has increased nearly fourfold in France over the last two centuries, from 21% in 1785 to 80% in 1985. This trend is ascribable to improved socioeconomic conditions and better medical care. However, growing old often brings feelings of sadness and rebellion. The plight of the elderly has always been viewed as a cause for lamentation. In ancient times, philosophers and writers recommended a subtle alliance of Epicureanism and Stoicism as the best means for overcoming or accepting age-related disabilities. These recommandations are still relevant today.
