The evaluation of generalized anxiety disorder in older adults

摘要
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common disorder in older adults. The aim of this study is to evaluate the severity and associated factors of generalized anxiety disorder in older adults. 45 patients (26 women, 19 male) over 65 years and 46 patients younger than 65 years (27 women, 21 male), diagnosed as generalized anxiety disorder have applied to the outpatient department of a state hospital were included in the study. As a result of the study Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) total score, somatic and psychic anxiety subscale scores were significantly higher in group of patients over the age of 65 than young people. There was no difference in Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) scores between the groups. As a result; GAD symptoms were more severe in patients over 65 years. To recognize and treat this disease impairing quality of life in elderly is important.
