摘要
Objective The following research aims to study the shrinkage in Ferrol, by both historical and current description of the city of Ferrol, and the analysis of its factors and causes through a series of indicators. Also, seeing the importance and the impact that has the politics over the process and urban shrinking city. Methodology Having analyzed the context of the situation of Ferrol will have to proceed to study the potential of the city and propose strategies or actions that can solve the problems of this phenomenon, by making a SWOT analysis. The methodology used is the triangulation through quantitative and qualitative methods simultaneously. The data collected and used for the fulfillment of the objectives are mainly of the Galician Statistics Institute (IGE) and the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Conclusions The main conclusions we can emphasize are that Ferrol suffers a relocation of the naval industry which affects elements such as economics, demography and social aspects. In addition, it suffers a process of suburbanization with Naron, exacerbating the situation. Originality It addresses a subject little studied in the Spanish field globally, applying the policies already widely studied and applied in the European field on a specific city such as Ferrol.
