SAFETY ASSESSMENT OF THE GREIFSWALD NUCLEAR-POWER-PLANT, UNITS 1 TO 4

The units 1 to 4 of the Greifswald nuclear power plant are Soviet designed units of the first generation with VVER-440/V-230 type reactors. As early as July 1989, the regulatory bodies of all countries operating reactors of this type established requirements for backfitting. In the first half of 1990, a safety assessment of the Greifswald units 1 to 4 was performed involving experts from the USSR and France. It was stated that backfitting measures have to be taken in almost all areas. According to their degree of urgency, these measures were divided into three categories.
