Kastamonu Forest Products Industry

In sectoral base, especially in manufacturing industry; an obvious concentration occurs where the production factors are convenient. Kastamonu has important resources with regard to production factors of forest product industry. For the province and countries in attaining the development level, knowing well of resources and the best evaluation of these resources are of vital importance. In this study, forest resources and forest products industry in Kastamonu and the manufacturer enterprises in this industry have been searched. In order to this aim, a survey form has been prepared and applied to enterprises in manufacturing part of this sector employing 10 or more staff. Due to Kastamonu is included into investment incentives in 2005, obtaining data in between 2003-2007 from enterprises and the rates of change have been examined. As a result, it has seen that Kastamonu has a rich forest resources and forest product industry. It has been determined that vocational training has high importance and capacity using rate is high in the enterprises having high employment. It has been observed that increasing employment of qualified staff and production and being tendency to export in large-scale enterprises. Besides, it has been observed that governmental encouragement resulted in a significant growth of these enterprises. Kastamonu is one of the leading cities in forest product industry though the inadequate qualified staff, lack of technological instruments and transportation problems.
