THE ORGANIZATION AND OPERATION OF BLOOD-TRANSFUSION SERVICES IN ANDALUSIA

The starting point of recent blood transfusion history in Andalusia may be pinpointed around the mid-1980s with the inception of regional planning. Since then, important changes have come about which are having a positive effect on both blood collection and treatment structure and the clinical practice of transfusion. The underpinnings of these changes lie in the setting up of Transfusion Centers, which have paved the way for a new conception of transfusion services and have established the move towards regional self-sufficiency in blood and blood products as a real possibility.
